The Mineral Museum

Description

The mill located in the bend of the Bystra River was erected in 1937. Today, it houses the Mineral Museum. At present, its collection boasts about 2,000 exhibits and is constantly expanded. The collection is particularly beautifully displayed in the interior of an old mill accompanied by the original mill machinery. It features most likely the largest collection of blue salt in Poland and other varieties of rock salt. The newest exhibit is the brown coal rock that weighs about 40 kilos and has visible traces of the tree bark and grains. You can also see here a fossilized fish from Brazil, perfectly preserved with a clearly visible skin and scales, which is – a trifle – about 250 million years old. Mr. Grzegorz Bukowski who, together with his wife Anna, runs the museum and an agrotourist farm, knows everything about minerals. He travelled almost the entire world searching for minerals and he eagerly shares his knowledge with tourists. The mill offers a possibility to rent a salt room with walls covered with Kłodawska salt for inhalation. The Hipolit Mill is famous for delicious liquors, home made by the owners, according to closely guarded recipes. Other fantastic attractions include the demonstration of gold panning and melting, and experimental volcano eruptions. More details can be found at the website www.mlynhipolit.pl.
