Hospital Church of St. Ann.

Description

Initially wooden, the church was first erected most likely by Andrzej Tęczyński as a court chapel during the time when Końskowola was granted a town charter. It is believed that the founder dedicated the church to St. Ann in order to honour his mother, Anna née Konińska, who raised him alone after his father’s death during King John I Albert’s military expedition to Moldavia. The current building, erected in the so-called Lublin Renaissance style, was consecrated in 1613. The small brick church dating from the early 17th century was astonishingly functional and richly ornamented as for a small hospital church. Especially ornamental are the pinnacle gables of the church – the western and the eastern, which separated the chancel from the nave.
