Chapel

Description

A small wooden church was erected on the site of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary during the 1278 Tatar invasion of Poland. In 1700 the figure of Our Lady was transferred to Wąwolnica, and the church was demolished. In the 19th century, Franciszek Kempiński founded a modest roadside shrine commemorating the site of apparitions as a thanksgiving offering for the eyesight recovery, and the present chapel was erected here in 2008. It features a rock on which the Tatars placed the figure of Our Lady in order to insult it in the presence of the Polish prisoners. Before the eyes of the gathered crowd, the figure rose to the sky and rested several hundred metres away a linden growing on a hill. When the Tatars, defeated in the battle fought nearby, scattered in panic, the figure returned to the rock in a similar way.
