The villa in Gutanów

Description

The villa manor was built in the years 1916–17 by Count Tomasz Grabowski of the Topór Coat of Arms. The building was erected next to the former larch manor, which was most likely burnt down or destroyed during the First World War. The relatively small brick building has a very unusual form. It gives an impression of an unfinished work, an addition to another building. The compact two-storey structure of the villa is livened up by an asymmetrical semi-circular avant-corps, featuring the main entrance and the staircase (the ground floor annex was added later). The elevation is divided by a narrow cordon cornice, running between the storeys and by a wider crowning cornice. The ornamental window framing adds elegance to the elevation.

Soon after the erection of the new house, Count Grabowski died. The estate was inherited by his wife, and then by a nephew Wincenty Zagórski, who sold the estate of Gutanów (with an area of 221 ha) to Henryk Czerwiński. After the Second World War, the former residence of the Grabowski family housed a school, thanks to which the building has been preserved in a relatively good condition until the present day. Unfortunately, the once beautiful park was completely destroyed, and only one farm building has survived out of the manorial farm. At present, it houses the Volunteer Fire Department Station in Gutanów. Adjacent to the villa is a roadside shrine with a figure of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception founded by the Grabowski family and located on a hill.
