Młynki

Description

The oldest record of the name of the village Młynki dates from 1469. The mention of two “hard-working” – that is, most likely free peasants – residents of the village, Wawrzyniec Opat and Jan Kula, dates from the same year. As far as the origin of the village’s name [small mills] is concerned, it most likely comes from the mills processing the bog ore extracted in the neighbouring village of Rudy. It is very probable since the village was established at the Kurówka River, and the technology of bog iron processing required rinsing bog ore after its extraction in order to remove pollution and then breaking it into pieces. The fact that mills were required for the latter process manifests that the bog ores processed here came in large hard blocks that were rich in iron.

Poet Józef Czechowicz was affiliated with the village of Młynki, where he often visited family. During these visits, he collected local occasional songs and then described them in his press articles.
